Creating A Future-Ready Home With Solar PV, Battery Storage & Air Source Heating
When the owners of Highbury House in Llandrindod Wells began exploring renewable energy, they were looking for more than just lower energy bills.
Their goal was to create a home that was less reliant on fossil fuels, better protected against rising energy costs and ready for the future.
Like many homeowners considering renewable technology, they had questions about how the different technologies would work together, whether an air source heat pump would perform effectively throughout the year and what level of disruption would be involved during installation.
After researching several options and obtaining multiple quotations, they chose Chris Allen Renewables & Heating to design and deliver a complete renewable energy solution.
The Challenge
The homeowners wanted to:
- Reduce long-term energy costs
- Improve energy independence
- Lower their carbon footprint
- Future-proof their home
- Integrate multiple renewable technologies into a single system
The solution needed to work seamlessly with the property while maintaining comfort, reliability and ease of use.
The Solution
Following a detailed assessment, our team designed and installed a complete renewable energy package including:
Installation Package
- 5.52kWp Solar PV system using high-efficiency UKSOL monocrystalline solar panels
- 10.37kWh battery storage system
- 15kW Grant Aerona Air Source Heat Pump
- 281 litre hot water cylinder
- Integration with the property's existing heating system
The Solar PV system is forecast to generate approximately 3,941kWh of electricity annually.
When combined with battery storage, the system is expected to achieve around 79% electricity self-sufficiency, significantly reducing reliance on imported grid electricity. The installation is also projected to save over 1.8 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year.
The Outcome
The completed system now provides:
- Greater energy independence
- Reduced reliance on imported electricity
- Lower carbon emissions
- Improved long-term energy efficiency
- Future-ready heating and power generation
The homeowners are generating a significant proportion of their own electricity while using battery storage to maximise the value of the energy produced throughout the day.
The air source heat pump works alongside the solar and battery system to provide an efficient, low-carbon heating solution that keeps the property comfortable throughout the year.
Ongoing Support
As with all Chris Allen Renewables & Heating installations, the project included full system handover, customer guidance and ongoing aftercare support.
Our team remains available to assist with system optimisation, performance questions and future expansion opportunities as the homeowners continue their renewable energy journey.

“We wanted to reduce our energy costs, lower our carbon footprint and become less dependent on fossil fuels. From the initial survey through to installation, the team at Chris Allen Renewables & Heating were exceptional. Everything was explained clearly, the installation was completed professionally and we felt supported throughout the entire process. The solar panels, battery storage and heat pump have exceeded our expectations. The system works seamlessly, our home remains comfortable and we're generating much of our own electricity. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Chris Allen Renewables & Heating to anyone considering renewable energy solutions.”
